How to Create a Curved Drywall Design

In most instances, drywall is mostly used to cover straight walls. BUt with the need to create better designs that are curved and are more modern, there is a drywall bending technique that most drywall professionals use to achieve this unique design.

If you wish to achieve this great design, you need to set up all the necessary materials then follow this guide on how to create a curved drywall design.

Lay drywall flat

Lay your drywall sheet on a flat surface, ensuring that the whole piece is intact on the ground. Ideally, you can lay on the garage floor since it’s spacious and easy to put away unwanted furniture, tools, and equipment.

Cut to size

Measure the required drywall size to fit your working surface.

Wet drywall

Drywall can bend to different radius depending on its size. For instance, the ¼ inch can bend to a radius of Foot, ⅜ inch panels to a 7-Foot radius, and the ⅝ inch panel to a 15-foot radius.

Drywall is bent by wetting the panel using a roller or sprayer. Ensure you have both the upper and lower sheets. When wet, the drywall can bend at tighter curves than usual. For the tight turns, score the back of the sheet on its width for more flexibleness.

Allow moisture to settle

Leave your drywall sheet for about an hour to allow the moisture to be absorbed in the panel.

Bend drywall

Drywall is very delicate when wet. Therefore bend the drywall carefully according to your preference.

Install and Finish

Fasten your drywall, ensuring that you fasten the screws firmly. Then finish your curved wall according to your preference.

NOTE:

Use a substantial amount of water because too much moisture damages drywall.

While wetting drywall, ensure plenty of air circulation in the room to help dry the board faster.

Drywall will reacquire its original robustness and hardness once it dries completely.

PRO TIP

Use two of the ¼ inch drywall instead of the ½ inch. Hose down one sheet, bend to a curve your preference, then fasten using screws. Then repeat the same for the next sheet.
